PROTEST IN NIJ OVER CHANGE IN TIMETABLE

The Post Graduate Diploma students of the Nigerian institute of Journalism on Tuesday protested against the school Management over the sudden change of their examination timetable.

The examination which commenced on Monday 11th of June went without hitches until Wednesday 13th of June 2018 when the management came up with another timetable having effected some  changes.

According to the previous timetable schedule, students were expected to have a paper on Monday but because of the recent declaration of a public holiday by the Federal Government , the paper scheduled on Monday was brought back to the 14th of June 2018.

It was a sad note for the students of NIJ on hearing this, couple with the fact that the news of the change on their timetable was brought an hour to the commencement of the days paper.

As the students could not hold this, they matched in mass to the office of the Deputy Provost of the institution, Dr Jide Johnson According to him.,he said the timetable was prepared following the schools' calendar.,they are not aware that public holiday will fall on the said date.,but not until when the federal government made the declaration on Tuesday. He apologised to the protesting to accept the change that there is nothing the management can do.

One of the students of the institution said.the change was too sudden that they have been writing exams since Monday.bringing back the new date may cause them failure because they have programmed their minds to attempt the paper on the previous date couple with the fact that most of the Post Graduate Diploma students are working class set of students. Adequate preparation is highly needed to pass exams.

More over to me the notice is just too short. The management should do something.

The Deputy Provost of the institution said the change on the timetable was not an attempt to cause threat to the students' as claimed by some ,but was as a result of the two day public holiday declared by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

He called for an emergency meeting with the students in the hall, observed the timetable with them, then resolved to have the examination fixed for the 22nd of June ,2018.
